Credit: PM Press Office Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis has postponed his planned official trip to Australia due to the escalating geopolitical crisis in the Middle East, it was made public on Saturday. The visit, originally scheduled to coincide with Greek Independence Day commemorations in late March, is currently on hold indefinitely. The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia confirmed the delay in a formal announcement, stating that all scheduled events set to take place under its auspices during the Prime Minister’s visit will no longer proceed as originally planned. Church officials noted that further information regarding the rescheduling of these community and cultural events will be released at a later date. Mitsotakis was expected to travel across the country, with planned stops in Melbourne, Sydney, and Canberra. His itinerary heavily featured engagements with the Greek-Australian community, which represents one of the largest Greek diaspora populations globally. The Prime Minister was scheduled to attend multiple events marking the March 25 celebrations, honoring the anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821 alongside expatriates, church leaders, and local dignitaries. Beyond the independence celebrations, the trip carried significant diplomatic and economic weight. The visit was arranged following a long-standing invitation from Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who had formally asked Mitsotakis to travel to Australia as an official guest to strengthen bilateral ties. Additionally, Mitsotakis was confirmed as a keynote participant for the inaugural Delphi Economic Forum in Sydney, scheduled for March 27 and 28. The forum, marking its first-ever event in the Asia-Pacific region, aimed to bring together political and business leaders to discuss global economic stability, energy security, and foreign investment between the two nations.
